About Us

Through the unique partnership of SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital Madison, Edgewood College and UnityPoint Health - Meriter Hospital, our doors first opened in 2009 under the name of the Center for Nursing Excellence (CNE) with the goal to provide simulation education experiences to practicing nurses and nursing students. In 2014 we changed our name to the Center for Healthcare Education and Simulation (CHES) in order to promote collaborative and team-based education, to be inclusive of other health professionals that can benefit from the Center’s resources, and to provide opportunities for health-related training to the general public.

Important features of CHES include:

  • It is one of the only healthcare training centers in the area with a comprehensive simulation inventory that offers courses of varying levels to meet the needs of both healthcare professionals and the general public.
  • It has unique partnerships with SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, Edgewood College and UnityPoint Health - Meriter Hospital that allow for high-quality training and education by experienced and professional instructors.
  • Course offerings support the development of skills, competence, and confidence in both team-based and individual settings.
  • Many courses may fulfill or count toward certifications (i.e. ACLS, PALS, CPR, First Aid) or continuing education licensure requirements (i.e. CME, CNE, CEUs).
